Welcome to the Cape Breton Genealogy and Historical Association

A RECENTLY RECEIVED EMAIL – PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU KNOW THIS FAMILY

Hi there,
My name is Sammantha Dunseath and I am a summer student at the
Elgin
MilitaryMuseum in St. Thomas, ON.  The other day we had a gentleman come in who
possessed a Victory Medal circa WW I with the engraving 877275 Pte. J.
McGrath R.C.R. on the edge of the medal.  We have done some research which
has turned up J. McGrath's full name as:  James William McGrath.  He was the
son of Daniel and Laurice McGrath and born Sept. 20, 1898 in
CapeBreton,
NS
. He had 9 siblings (as of 1911 when a census was taken).
The gentleman who possesses the medal is not a relative of Mr. McGrath and
he wishes that the medal be returned to one of his descendants.  I was
wondering if you might have more information on the McGrath family and/or the
relatives of Mr. James McGrath.
Thank you in advance for your time!

More Cemeteries  and more to come

Sacred Heart Parish in Johnstown is celebrating its 150th  anniversary this summer.

The community has a website,   http://www.johnstown.ca     and many photographs, documents, newspaper clippings, etc have been posted.
This may be of interested to many of CBGHA members, as many people are descendants of the several original families (Campbell’s, Mac Neil’s, Cash’s,
MacKenzie’s, MacMullins, Johnston’s to name a few) of Johnstown/Red Island’s area.
